What our speakers said, how the integration works, what it costs and how to get connected.
On 8 October we hosted Streamlining Clinical Documentation: Heidi & Medtech Evolution, a one-hour webinar with Heidi Health, Hendrix Health and Tāmaki Health. More than 290 people joined live, and the Q&A ran right up to the hour with over 65 questions.
Dr Simon Kos, Heidi’s Chief Medical Officer, opened with the case for ambient AI scribing and why the partnership with Medtech Evolution matters:
“It’s only in the last couple of years, with this powerful new technology that’s designed for clinicians by clinicians, that we’re really starting to unburden our front line. The fact that Medtech Global is standards-enabled and, through the ALEX® platform, has embraced FHIR® at the core meant we could lean in and develop something pretty special.” Dr Simon Kos, Chief Medical Officer, Heidi Health
Samir Ranchhod, Chief Digital Officer at Tāmaki Health, shared what the rollout has looked like across their network of 52 clinics, where Heidi is now used by around 400 clinicians and has generated more than 800,000 consultation notes:
“There is just more face time with the clinician. As clinicians and staff get used to the technology, there’s less typing into a screen and more face-to-face contact with the patient. When the patient leaves the room, we’re finding through our staff surveys and NPS surveys that there’s an increase in satisfaction as well.” Samir Ranchhod, Chief Digital Officer, Tāmaki Health
Florian Stroehle , CEO of Hendrix Health(Heidi’s New Zealand partner), walked through the Health Hawke’s Bay pilot study: 50 GPs across 12 practices, April to October 2025, none of whom had used an AI scribe before. On average clinicians saved 2.2 minutes per 15-minute consult, around four and a half hours a week for a full-time GP, and overtime dropped by close to two hours a week (more than four for the heaviest users). Patients reported being seen on time more often.
“Clinicians felt that they had more time within the session to practice medicine the way they wanted to.” Florian Stroehle, CEO, Hendrix Health
Then Dr Jono O’Sullivan, Heidi’s Clinical Director for ANZ, showed the integration live: today’s appointment book pulled straight from Medtech Evolution into Heidi, patient context pre-filled from the Medtech record, a consult captured and turned into a structured note, and that note pushed back into the patient’s Daily Record with one click.

Heidi is now built into Medtech Evolution
The integration Jono demonstrated is live now. Heidi’s AI scribe works inside Medtech Evolution through the Medtech ALEX® API, and practices can start connecting today. Here’s the short version of how it works.
What the integration does
• Your day, synced. Heidi pulls today’s patients from your Medtech appointment book. You don’t need to re-enter patient details or match records by hand.
• Context before the consult. Structured data comes through from the patient’s Medtech record before you see them. That includes medications, allergies, long-term conditions, immunisations, observations and past visit notes.
• Notes back in Medtech Evolution. Once the clinician has reviewed the note, it goes straight into the patient’s Daily Record, section by section, so there’s no copying and pasting. You choose which sections go back.
• Medtech stays the source of truth. Context held in Heidi stays with the session. It’s encrypted and deleted when your practice’s retention period ends.
Built on Medtech ALEX®
The connection runs on Medtech ALEX®, our FHIR®-based API platform. It links Medtech Evolution to more than 15 partner apps, and the list keeps growing. Medtech ALEX® is free to enable and most practices already have it. Medtech doesn’t charge to switch it on for Heidi.
What’s in the recording
• Findings from a 50-GP study (Health Hawke’s Bay pilot)
• A live demo, from capturing a consult to pushing a structured note into Medtech Evolution
• Samir Ranchhod, Chief Digital Officer at Tāmaki Health, on rolling out Heidi with Medtech across a large multi-site network
Thank you to our speakers: Samir Ranchhod Chief Digital Officer from Tāmaki Health, Jono O’Sullivan-Scott , Clinical Specialist from Heidi and Florian Stroehle , Co-Founder and CEO of Hendrix Health.
Getting connected
1. Plan. Fill out the get-started form, and Hendrix (Heidi’s NZ partner) will confirm your plan.
2. Connect. Complete the Medtech ALEX®consent form with your Facility ID. Approval usually takes about 48 hours. Each clinician then connects under Settings > Connectors > Medtech in Heidi.
3. Go live. Start consulting. Reviewed notes go back into Medtech Evolution.
The integration is included at no extra cost on Heidi Scribe Team, Practice and Enterprise plans. Free and Clinician plans need to upgrade, and unused Clinician fees are credited pro rata.
Your questions, answered
These the questions we’ve published on the Heidi partner page.
What is the Medtech ALEX® API ecosystem?
Medtech ALEX® connects your Practice Management Systemsecurely and seamlessly to an ecosystem of digital health care services and third-party applications. ALEX® is built on FHIR®, the international standard for health interoperability, making it simple and cost effective for vendors to develop innovations for your organisation, so your choice of services and applications is always growing.
How many Medtech ALEX® partners are currently involved?
We are partnered with over 15 organisations, and the network continues to grow.
Is there an additional cost to have Heidi integrated with Medtech?
If you are on a Heidi Scribe Team, Practice or Enterprise plan, there is no additional cost. To upgrade your Clinician or Free plan, please get in touch via https://www.heidihealth.com/en-nz/events/en-nz/medtech– you will be provided with a pro-rated refund for any unused fees on the Clinician plan if you upgrade.
Will this work for users on the free version of Heidi if we are paying for Medtech licences for that user?
Unfortunately not. The integration needs a paid Heidi Practice, Scribe Team or Enterprise plan, and Free and Clinician plans can’t connect, whatever your Medtech licences.
For Heidi users who have already paid subscriptions, can these subscriptions lower the subscription cost if we commence using Heidi through the Evolution platform?
It is quite possible depending on your situation, please get in touch via https://www.heidihealth.com/en-nz/events/en-nz/medtech. If you’re on Clinician plans and move to a Practice plan (needed for the integration), we credit the unused part of your Clinician subscription pro rata. If you’re already on a Practice, Scribe Team or Enterprise plan, the integration is included at no extra cost.
What about patients who have declined the use of Heidi – is there a way to not have them appear within Heidi, or does everyone pull over once it’s switched on?
Appointments appear in your Heidi list, but nothing is recorded unless you start a session. When patients decline the use of Heidi, we recommend deleting the session, which deletes all patient context as well.
What set up is required in the Medtech ALEX® Apps?
Your practice needs Medtech ALEX® enabled (free), then you complete the Medtech consent form with your Facility ID. Once Medtech approves access, each clinician connects in Heidi under Settings > Connectors > Medtech.
Can you sync patients from the queue or only from appointment books?
Appointment books only for now.
