Evolution Tips for Sending Bulk SMS Messages

Medtech Evolution has the ability to send bulk SMS messages to patients. This has already been utilised by many practices to send important notifications to your patients over the last few weeks. Bulk SMS messages are a really handy way to advise your patients of altered opening hours/days, instructions on attending the clinic, and advising on temporary appointment screening measures.

Whilst bulk SMS is a fabulous tool, there are a few tips to remember when sending these for your practice:

  • Try to ensure your SMS templates are only going to send 1 SMS message each.
  • Avoid using mail merge symbols. If you do, you risk potentially breaching the 159 character limit and sending more than one SMS to an individual.
  • Limiting staff that have access to sending SMS messages will help avoid unnecessary messages or duplicate messages being sent.
  • And finally, if you are going to send bulk SMS messages it’s a good idea to have a plan on how you will approach and execute bulk notifications. This should be checked/signed off by someone who is very familiar with the SMS service.
